Allen McDaniel has been in the wine business for 21 years and meets the definition
of a true renaissance man. He has been a professional musician since he was 17 years
old and has traveled all over the world from the watering holes in the Central Valley of
California to the top night clubs in Tokyo, Japan. On one occasion he had the good
fortune to have John Lennon and Yoko in the audience for two hours while he played,
and the pleasure of meeting them during a break in the music.
Allen and his wife Susan decided to start a family and realized that the road trips would
need to be put on hold. They had two children, Philip and Kristen, and moved to the city
of Sonoma.
Allen has always had an interest in grapes and agriculture having grown up in
the San Joaquin Valley of California. He attended college to study viticulture and
thought he might try growing grapes but realized early on just prior to graduating that
he was too old for vineyard work. Allen decided the next best thing was to become involved in wine sales and worked with a couple of wine marketing companies for a few
years until 2000 when he went to work for Grove Street Brokers.
To take the renaissance theme a little farther Allen had a heart transplant at the University
of California San Francisco's Medical Center in April 2006. He encourages everyone to
live life to its fullest by enjoying good friends and good wine and to not sweat the small
stuff. He can't drink as much now but still enjoys wine immensely and loves to share his
knowledge of wine with customers and friends. He encourages everyone to go to www.donatelife.net.
